The following are initiatives and areas of focus for My H.O.O.D. These principles are used in every aspect of the organization to fulfill our mission within the community.
My H.O.O.D. seeks to empower individuals by providing them with the skills they need to proactively affect change in their communities. These skills are concentrated around building families and neighborhoods through volunteerism, overcoming poverty, and uniting the community through grass roots efforts.
My H.O.O.D. envisions a city of future leaders that will lead by example, take responsibility for their actions and teach others how to do the same so that generations to come will be built on these principles.
My H.O.O.D. teaches:
My H.O.O.D. promotes and nurtures our youth by helping them extract the natural talents and abilities they already possess. Tutoring is available to keep education a high priority and mentors are assigned to teach and model the development of high self-esteem and conscious decision-making.
My H.O.O.D. recognizes the massive financial literacy void plaguing our communities. By educating our youth how to responsibly use credit, avoid financial pitfalls and develop money management skills we break the cycle and set the wheels in motion for the financial success of future generations.
My H.O.O.D. utilizes sports as a way to engage youth in activities that will encourage personal development, team work and build confidence all while implementing a mentoring and tutoring component.
The Athletic Dynasty is an after-school tutoring and mentoring program for high school students that was developed to refocus and restore enthusiasm and unity within the community. By using a sports platform to achieve academic and personal growth Athletic Dynasty allows students to excel mentally and physically while increasing and developing their work ethic, discipline and desire to succeed in school.
The Sander Stallions is a football team that is part of the Cleveland Muny Football League. There are three teams ranging from the ages of 6-13 that include players as well as cheerleaders. The team was created as a way to reach more of Cleveland’s youth by providing a fun, positive and safe environment for them to channel their energies after school. Students are not only encouraged on the field but are expected to maintain good grades and behavior to be eligible to participate. The Steve Sanders Stallions is currently the only Muny League team backed by an NFL player. The team is directed by head coach Jason Dunn and assistant directors George Freeman and Michael Miller.
